Stop making assumptions and start creating opportunities.
I fell into the trap of marketing and publishing podcast content without taking the time to assess my audience and listen to their feedback.
Yes I have always responded to messages and comments really quickly, but I didn’t take the time to check for trends, patterns and valuable insider information that could help guide me and the content I produce.
50 episodes into The Mindful Living Show and I eventually take the time to look deeply at my audience demographics and profiles. I’m a marketer and I fell right into the same trap I always guide my clients and students away from.
I had made the assumption that my podcast audience would be the same as my usual client and students. Female between 25 and 45 years old. So imagine my surprise when my analytics show me that my podcast subscribers are predominantly male and between 18 and 27 years old. Many are starting out, entrepreneurs and career path formers, seeking guidance and mentoring for their journeys.
Who would have thought it.
Well, I should have thought it and not fallen into the trap of marketing without listening. 80/20 balance, I tell my clients. 80% outbound and 20% listening to what happens. Listen to your own advice Neil.
So what’s the moral of the story? Let’s deep dive into your numbers and insights, stop making assumptions and start creating opportunities.
Send me an email if you’d like a chat about where to begin and I’ll see if I can help you start.
